Joshua T. Smith was born in Austin, TX. As the son of the late great musician and professor in music, Dr. Thomas R. Smith, he spent his childhood surrounded by music and academia.
He received the Associate of Arts degree in music from Florida SouthWestern State College in 2014 and would go on to earn a Bachelor’s of Music with a focus in composition from New College of Florida in 2018.
Throughout his academic career, he would learn and develop skills and knowledge in music, anthropology, multimedia production, and digital arts. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Josh sharpened his skills in electric bass, electric/acoustic guitar, sound design and music production. He also gained skills in digital arts, design, and illustration while earning a CCC in Digital Media/Multimedia Production from FSW.
Josh now resides in Gainesville Florida, offering his skills in music and sound tech to the community as a freelance musician and sound technician, as well as a tech staff member at the University of Florida Performing Arts. Josh has worked as a musician and sound technician in a number of diverse environments, including but not limited to: live panel discussions, conferences, parties, burlesque, open mics, and indoor and outdoor live band and dj sets.
